Title: An overview of modeling on-line disease Speaker: Prof. George Kesidis, CSE and EE Depts, Penn State University Abstract: We begin by giving an overview of epidemics in living populations, focusing on the deterministic SIR model and its many variants, in particular those that include inoculation dynamics. Graphical models of epidemics targeting social networks are then discussed. We then focus on the peculiarities of on-line disease including techniques of disease spread via "social engineering" (e.g., email borne virus and Facebook eggs) or by automated means (e.g., scanning worms and the recent Twitter worm leveraging automated retweets).
