Brief Biography

I am currently working as a research fellow at the Paradigm research lab, at School of Computer Science at Carleton University, with Prof. Yorg-R Sack. Before joining Carleton, I worked as an FQRNT postdoctoral fellow with Prof.Gregor von Bochmann in the Distributed Systems Research Group. Earlier, I did my PhD research at the Advanced Networking Research Lab supervised by Prof. Muthucumaru Maheswaran at the School of Computer Science at McGill University, Canada. I did my Bachelors and Masters in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology, Dhaka.

Research

My broad area of research is Networks and Distributed Computing Systems. My current focus of interest is on decentralized self-organizing systems (peer-to-peer systems). My PhD work was on resource management in high-performance computing platforms. In summary, the set of problems I have recently worked and currently working on, relates to the following sub-areas -

My PhD Thesis:

"Managing Dedicated and Opportunistic Resources in a Bi-modal Service Deployment Architecture", McGill University, Feb. 2008. [ PDF ]

This thesis introduces a new paradigm called “bi-modal organization” for resource management in distributed systems. In such organization, a static pool of reliable dedicated resources is combined with a large, virtually infinite pool of cheap but unreliable resources, for better application performance, higher work throughput and better resource economy. I explored the feasibility of such bi-modal organization in two different distributed systems – a high-throughput computing platform focusing on computational resources and a distributed stream processing platform focusing on communication resources.
