Directed Studies

Directed study courses are hard work! In order to take a directed study course, an outline of study has to be provided, including deliverables and marking scheme. I do not offer pure review-type directed study courses. The outline of study has to be approved prior to the study course beginning.

I think of directed study courses as mini research projects. As such, they typically include:

1. A review paper, summarizing the area (10-20 pages).
2. A design document (in the case of a software project).
3. One or more (software) implementations (usually in Java).
4. A directed study report.

I expect to meet with a student once every 2 weeks to monitor progress.
