- Secure Wireless Communications
We plan to address gaps in wireless security uncovered by our previous work and work of other researchers. Two issues that we want to address in particular are key establishment in a self-organized manner and location determination in the presence of malicious neighboring sensors that may lie about their position. Key establishment will follow approaches relying on the hypotheses that networked sensors may sense some environmental variables approximately the same way. Values of these virtually common variables can be used to derive common secrets. Determination of location in the presence of malicious neighbors that lie about their position will be approached with heuristics that will work provided that the number of liars is below a certain threshold value. We will explore the implications of majority based decision making in the context of our previous work on three neighbor and two neighbor localization algorithms.
