- Load Distribution and Balancing
The objective in this research is to develop algorithms mechanisms for load distribution and balancing for stochastic networks, including SONs. The immediate focus will be given to the study of load balancing. In a stochastic network, which consists of a large number of network nodes, load balancing is often used to improve the system performance by shortening the queue length, reducing the waiting time, and increasing the system throughput. In a wireless sensor network, load balancing is crucial for its lifetime. By spreading the workload across a sensor network, load balancing can be reached, which can reduce hot spots in the sensor network and increase the energy lifetime and therefore the lifetime of the sensor network. The short term plan is to develop load balancing mechanisms based on mean field interaction and to characterize fundamental aspects of the model.
