Carleton HPCVL Computing Resources
The high performance computing facilities that HPCVL operates are distributed throughout Carleton University, Ottawa University, Queens University, and the Royal Military College, with the main installation being at Queens. The facilities located at Carleton include:


Beowulf Cluster

Hardware Configuration:

  • 64 nodes with 4x2.2 GHz Opteron Cores w/ 8 GB RAM per node
  • 3 nodes with 12x2.53 GHz Intel Xeon E5649 w/ 24 GB RAM per node
  • 3 TB of disk storage
  • All nodes are interconnected via a Foundry SuperX switch
  • using Gigabit ethernet
  • This system is primarily for systems and tools research

Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 Server

Hardware Configuration:

  • SPARC64 VII: Four 2.4GHz Quad Core processors w/ 32GB RAM
  • 2 hardware threads on each core
  • 13 TB of disk storage
  • Gigabit ethernet connections
  • This system is primarily for systems and tools research

Installed Software:

All Beowulf Cluster users can also use this server.

Sun Microsystems - Sun Fire 6800 Server

Hardware Configuration:

  • SPARCV9: 24 1.8GHz processors w/ 192GB RAM
  • 2 hardware threads on each core
  • 13 TB of disk storage
  • Gigabit ethernet connections
  • This system is primarily for systems and tools research

Installed Software:

  • SunOS 5.10 Generic_144488-11
  • Sun Grid Engine Scheduler (changed to Oracle Grid Engine )
  • OPEN MPI
  • IDBA-UD (Assembler for Short Reads Sequencing data with Highly Uneven Sequencing Depth)
  • GNU Toolchain
