I am looking for students with backgrounds in machine learning and linear algebra. Experience in software development or healthcare/medicine is an asset.

Unfortunately, due to the large volume of emails I receive, I am not able to respond to every inquiry. To ensure a prompt response, please include all of the above information in your email. Thank you for your understanding.

Funding for Graduate Students

Information on costs and fees at Carleton University is available here: https://carleton.ca/studentaccounts/tuition-fees/.

Typically, graduate student funding comes from three sources:

  1. Teaching assistantship. Graduate students may apply to be teaching assistants for undergraduate courses during the academic year. Some students may be offered teaching assistantship as part of their offer of admission; others may apply to be "outside priority" teaching assistants. Further information may be found here: https://gradstudents.carleton.ca/teaching-assistants/. Salary is determined by the collective agreement found here: https://cupe4600.ca/resources/collective-agreement/.
  2. Research assistantship. Graduate students may be paid a fixed payment to be actively involved in research in an area related to their studies. Typically, this is treated as a student stipend (not a salary), and the amount is determined by the supervisor.
  3. Scholarships. Students are encouraged to apply for all scholarships/awards for which they are eligible. Note that application deadlines can be up to one year in advance of the program start date. Further information may be found here: https://gradstudents.carleton.ca/awards-and-funding/.

Note for domestic graduate students:

Typically, the teaching assistantship, research assistantship, and scholarships are sufficient to cover domestic tuition and some living expenses. Students are strongly encouraged to apply for scholarships to supplement this.

Note for international PhD students:

The university may offer to reduce tuition for international PhD students to domestic student rates. Provided this, the teaching assistantship, research assistantship, and scholarships are sufficient to cover tuition and some living expenses. Students are strongly encouraged to apply for scholarships to supplement this. Unfortunately, there are limited scholarship opportunities for international students.

Note for international Master's students:

International tuition for Master's students is very expensive (see information above). Due to funding constraints, I only supervise international Master's students who can fully fund their own tuition and living expenses through savings, family contributions, external scholarships, etc.. Unfortunately, there are limited scholarship opportunities for international students.
